WPC – The Shiny Ananda

Ananda Phaya, Bagan, Myanmar

Ananda Phaya is one of the holiest and the most beautiful Buddhist temples in Bagan, Myanmar. It’s built on 1105 by King Kyanzittha of Pagan Dynasty. This temple houses four 10 meter high standing Buddhas, each one facing the cardinal direction of East, North, West and South. Although the Buddhas were made of teak wood, those gold-plated Buddhas are so shiny.

I love visiting this famous temple. Although Bagan is hot enough but I felt cool in the temple. The guide told to me that the King killed the architects after building completion to keep the cool uniqueness of the temple in secret. This so-called power-abusing story behind the most admiring temple in Bagan, for me, just added a long list of contradict stories in religious places all over the world.
