WPC – The Last Leaf

The Last Leaf
The Last Leaf

I looked up at the last leaf that dangled high on the tree.  How beautifully this leaf grows old, how full of strength and color on its last days. It swayed gently, looked like dancing in the autumn breeze. All of its dearly friends have fallen to the ground, floated gently down without a sound. Fall season came around. All leaves knew that tree did not cling to its leaves. There’s always time for letting go the old to make way for the new, to create spaces for better life. But where would this last leaf land when the time came for the tree to let it go? Nobody would know, even the time when the wind begins to blow.

The last leaf was hanging in its solitude, lived its life as though as everything was a miracle, and created moments to remember forever. It seemed the winds whispered to me the wonderful life story of the last leaf.

“As living in solitude, in the place of purification, time spent in this holy state could silence the noisy world. As solitude defined the richness of self, the loneliness defined the poverty of self”, said the last leaf gracefully.

“Don’t be afraid to fall, do you think fallen leaves are dead? You never watched the falling leaves dancing in a windy day. You’ll see that the leaves look at the sky and live happily. And when it’s time to leave, gracefully we know life is a gift. We knew we’re small, but it’s always believed that small deeds done are better than great deeds planned.”

“Never feel sad about losing anything in life because whenever a tree loses a leaf, a new leaf grows in its place, as life is a balance of holding on and letting go.”

The laughter of the people brought back my thought. I looked up again at the last leaf that dangled high on the tree, accepting its lesson that, solitude isn’t the absence of noises; it’s the absence of distractions. Sometimes in solitude we could find healing and peace by just speaking to the soul, listening to the heart and finding the simple answers.

But at the end, the great lessons from the last leaf was so simple, for living our life we only need to do best of our work and then be ready to depart when God shall call.
