WPC – Peace for One Love

One Love
One Love

This week’s photo challenge is about One Love. As described in the challenge, the universe is telling Anne McCarthy to focus on love and she asked us to tell what the universe is telling to us. Further, the Urban Dictionary described beautifully about One Love. It refers to the universal love and respect expressed by all people for all people, regardless of race, creed or color.

For this challenge, I make a collage of some photos of different religious places in Indonesia with the photo of World Peace Gong from Indonesia which I captured in Vientiane, Laos, in the center of the collage, as the representation of One Love.

Indonesia with more than 250 million people with six officially different religions is the 4th most populous country in the world. But as the most populous Muslim majority country, the other religions: Christianity, Catholics, Buddhism, Hinduism and Confucianism are practiced well enough in the country. Even in Nusa Dua, Bali there is a complex with 5 different praying places built adjacent to each other. Or we can see similar complex which was built in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta. Those are places of Peace in Diversity which is practiced in Indonesia.

I referred to the harmonious peaceful practices in Indonesia when I took the photo of the World Peace Gong in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. Although gong has various sizes, -from small to the grande-, the ‘gong’ term is usually referred to the biggest one or locally we called it as Gong Ageng. It is considered as the most important traditional music instrument in a gamelan ensemble, because the soul of the gamelan is said to live in the gong. As we called it as the World Peace Gong, we hope that love and peace will be filled forever in the land wherever the gong is located.

The picture below is the description where other religious places I’ve taken.

  1. I want to suggest about the Puja Mandala but you’ve already described it :)). Diversity is indeed beautiful! I hope our country will always be in peace.
